Stainless Steel Tags

When you need the most durable long lasting identification tags possible, stainless steel tags are what you are looking for!
Inland Products produces and stocks stainless tags in many shapes and sizes and can also make them custom to your specifications.
Blank stock sizes will usually ship out the same day because there is no further processing involved. All other categories require additional processing time which can vary from 3-7 work days so please contact us for specific lead times.

What advantages are there to using stainless steel tags for my identification project?

Stainless steel tags are by far the most durable metal tags we offer due mainly to the fact that stainless steel is simply the hardest metal we use to make our identification tags. Stainless steel tags are roughly twice as hard as brass tags and three to four times as hard as aluminum tags making stainless steel tags much more resistant to abrasion and damage from rough handling or extreme weather conditions. In addition to being harder than brass and aluminum, stainless steel is also much more resistant to corrosion sources such as salt water marine conditions or strong acids or alkaline materials and is also capable of handling extreme temperatures up to 2500 degrees fahrenheit.

What makes stainless steel so durable?

Stainless steel is produced by melting iron ore and carbon in a furnace and mixing in different types of metal alloys to achieve the desired properties in the end product. The specific alloys used when making stainless steel are what gives it the desirable properties that stainless steel is known for. These alloys are nickel, chromium, molybdenum, aluminum and silicon each playing a role in the quality of the end product.

Do you offer different grades of stainless steel?

Inland products offers our customers the choice of three different grades of stainless steel, each of which has been made using a different mixture of alloys to give each grade differing properties and capabilities.

The first grade is  Type 430 and it is the least expensive and most commonly used because for most applications it is as good as any other grade of stainless steel. It will not rust and is very strong and heat resistant but lacks the very high corrosion resistance that better grades of stainless steel possess. Type 430 is a magnetic stainless steel in that a magnet will stick to it like it will to regular steel because it has fewer alloys and more iron ore in it unlike the better grades that have a higher alloy content with less iron ore and as a result are both non magnetic.

The second grade we offer is Type 304 and it is a little more expensive not only because we have to pay more for the material from our supplier but because it is a harder material and more difficult and slower for us to process. Tooling used to process Type 304 stainless steel whether it is cutting, punching, blanking, shearing or rotary engraving takes a beating and needs to be sharpened and or replaced more often which ads significantly to our processing cost.

The best grade of stainless steel we offer is Type 316 and it is again a little more expensive for the same reasons. Type 316 is only used for the most extreme conditions that may cause corrosion of lesser grades such as constant exposure to strong acids or alkaline materials. We also encounter situations where Type 316 is specified in an engineered drawing and must be used to meet specifications for the project.
