What is Laser Engraving or Etching?

Engraved Anodized AluminumLaser engraving or etching is a process that combines leading edge laser technology with computer assisted manufacturing software. We use this method to mark in-stock and custom engraved tags and plates you order from Inland Products. All engraving performed at Inland Products is accomplished with this process.

When employing this process on anodized aluminum, brass or stainless steel, the laser super-heats the surface of the material, removing the polished surface, and permanently marking it with your required information. While there is no depth to the marking, it’s completely permanent and cannot be removed. In the same way, when employing this process on color-layered plastic, the top layer of the plastic is engraved away to reveal the contrasting color layer below.

Engraved BrassLaser engraving different materials results in different text color results. For example, laser etching anodized aluminum tags and plates results in white text and graphics,  while laser etching stainless steel or brass results in dark greyish brown text and graphics. Plastic, on the other hand, consists of layered colors. So, when laser engraving text and graphics into plastic, the top colored layer is removed to reveal the contrasting color below. For example, laser engraving our black/white layered plastic would result in a black tag face with white lettering and graphics.
